Austria — and Tyrol in particular — was Berann's home and the starting point of his career. His breakthrough came in 1934 when he won the competition to paint the newly opened Großglockner High Alpine Road. Through decades of tourism board commissions, he painted ski resorts, mountain railways, and Alpine highways across Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Salzburg, Styria, and Carinthia. His Austrian panoramas range from intimate valley views for local Verkehrsvereine to monumental works for the Brenner and Tauern motorways.
